Symposium Goals: Champion an outdoor recreation event to generate funds for Bucks4Browns while exposing kids ages 8-12 to fly fishing and creation of hand tied flies.
Symposium features:
The Symposium will be held in downtown Utica at the Radisson Center and will feature 3 closely located conference rooms.
Adirondack Room: 100 person capacity 1064 square feet. This will be where one of our Symposiums is held. 22 people will be seated side by side in a U-Shape and will be tying flies and answering questions for adults and kids. Our Symposium will feature a GRAB BAG fly tying competition in which each participant will receive a grab bag of materials at 3:00 PM. At that point the attendees will witness the fly tyers create anything their imagination can come up with spur of the moment. Each participant will receive the same materials. Creations will be presented on the cnyffaa.org web site blog for viewing after the symposium.
Seneca Room: 18 person capacity 418 square feet. In this room we will be holding a morning and afternoon children's fly tying class. If RSVP is large enough we will have the ability to add two more tying classes for a total of 40 students. Parents and Children are encouraged to attend together. Each Class will be two hours long. RSVP will be mandatory for fly tying classes and must be paid in advance through the secure www.jprossflyrods.com web site store with credit card or at the Feb or March FFAA meeting. Donations can also be taken at the supporting clubs listed below. Our Featured Sponsor Joe Stanley from the Stanley law offices will be donating fly tying tools for children who attend the classes to keep and bring home.
Conference Center: tiered seating 945 square feet. In the conference room we will be holding 45 minute seminars about fly fishing. Genre will include power point, open discussion and short films. Featured presenters will include:
o Matt Dinardo, fly fishing the salmon river seminar
o Artie Loomis, featuring his fishing Central New York fly fishing videos currently displayed on you tube
o Steve Bechard, saltwater fly fishing in Long Island seminar
o JP Ross, fishing the Adirondacks seminar
o Amanda Switzer, videos on fly fishing in the salt
o Brian Bradfield, Fishing Western New York Tributaries
Proceeds from the Symposium:
Proceeds and Benefits from the Symposium go to Bucks4Browns (B4B). B4B is a stocking program for the trophy section of the West Canada Creek. Every two years the Central New York Fly Fishers Anglers Association raises funds to purchase trophy tagged brown trout for the river. The FFAA actively holds river clean ups and promotes respect of private property bordering the Trophy Section. The FFAA also pays for production of, display and maintenance of over 100 regulation signs on the river. The B4B campaign is a way for us to promote catch and release fly fishing and also monitor the health of the river by data collection and display of caught fish on our web site www.cnyffaa.org. Essentially every time a Bucks4Browns trophy trout is caught twice, you can thank the previous angler for releasing it. By recording the tag numbers and reporting to the web site, the FFAA has proof that Catch and Release Fishing does work. B4B is a division of the FFAA established in 2000 and is a non-profit organization. All donations are tax deducible.
